We recently caught up with Lincoln-based Registered Nurse Megan Cook to find out why she decided to partner with KYSENSE®.

Megan is a Registered Mental Health Nurse BSc (Hons) of 10 years, with a Level 7 in Supporting Learning and Assessment in Practice, Non-Medical Prescribing and Cosmetic Medicine.

Over her career, she has worked in various roles including liaison psychiatry, inpatient psychiatry, as an Inspector for the Care Quality Commission who regulate healthcare in England and most recently as the Head of Compliance at a large charity with over 800 beds across the country.

With her team at Aesthetics by Megan Ltd she offers a range of aesthetic treatments from laser hair removal through to non-surgical facelifts with the latest and best technologies and products available on the market today.

Aesthetics by Megan Ltd actually started off as a mobile business because I was waiting to complete on a house move and didn’t really want to offer it from my mum’s house where I was staying at the time. However, I quickly stopped operating on a mobile basis when someone’s cat nearly knocked my Sharps bin over the floor!

Once I got the keys to my own home, I changed the conservatory to an at home clinic and decided to pursue aesthetics full time. It didn’t take long until I went from having one or two clients a day (on a really good day) to regularly having fully booked days with people coming from different counties. It started to take over my home a little, and so I decided it was time to progress and move to a clinic.”

Since May 2019, I have held my clinic at The Terrace in central Lincoln and am incredibly proud of my clinic, the treatments I offer and the team I have working from there.”

When talking about what made her go into the field, Megan says: “At 27, I noticed a line on my forehead which was really bothering me. I started to look in to having treatment for this, realised that as a registered nurse this was actually a career I could pursue, so I would be able to treat myself and keep myself looking young forever, and the rest, as they say, is history.”

Megan continues: “Although, I have actually still never administered my own toxin or filler treatments, Ive administered thousands of treatments to others over the last four years. I have honestly lost count of how many filler treatments I have performed so far!”

Talking about partnering with KYSENSE®, Megan says: I have been working in aesthetics full time for three years and over that time have been looking for a filler to meet my clients needs. I chose KYSENSE® for its premium quality, solid safety & clinical data and patented technology. I know that Claire [CEO & Founder at Circa Skin] only ever does things properly, so I trust she is offering a quality, safe product. I have reviewed the data, I like the safety profile and my patients are happy with the results.”

Other dermal fillers I’ve tried had a few downfalls, such as poor clinical trials or absence of quality data, or a bad reputation.

If I am offering something, I always like to try it myself. I’ve had over 20ml [of filler] in total, but I would like to think that I still look very natural and although I may look different than when I started (I look younger!!), I don’t look fake.
“Megan explains that there’s no right age to start having aesthetics treatments, instead, she says: “I think there is a ‘right for you age’. This depends on the presenting complaint and your own self perception. What some people find acceptable about the ageing process, others do not. What some people describe as characterful, natural facial features, others do not. However, in terms of ageing, the longer you leave it, the more work there is to be done!”
“I don’t think there is a ‘right age’ [for aesthetic treatments], I think there is a ‘right for you age’. What some people find acceptable about the ageing process, others do not.”

When it comes to treatment frequency, Megan believes that that also depends on various factors, namely “the presenting complaint, the product and subtype of product that is being used and the individual’s lifestyle. Some will metabolise filler more quickly. Some will have a softly, softly approach and have a few ml of filler every few months. Others will have 10ml in one sitting and I won’t see them again for a year.”
